Q: How do I find a reputable Roofer?

A:  The best way to find a reputable roofer is to find out how long the company has been in business, whether they have an actual business location or just a P.O. Box and what their contractor’s license number is.

  • Confirm the validity of the contractor’s license number by visiting the Contractors State License Board.
  • Check the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to find Accredited Roofing Contractors.  Bob Piva Roofing has an A+ rating with the BBB.  We encourage you to view our BBB Report.

Q: How long have you been in business?

A:  Bob Piva Roofing has been in business, in the same Escondido location and under the same license, since 1963.

Q: Do you provide financing?

We provide financing through GE Money.  We also accept credit cards—Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.

Q: Are you a licensed and fully insured Roofing Contractor?

A:  Yes, we are licensed, fully insured (liability insurance & worker’s compensation coverage).  Our contractor’s license number is 218938.

Q: Do you offer free estimates?

A:  Yes, we do.  Please call one of the numbers at the top of this website to set-up an appointment.

Q: What type of roofing warranty do you offer?

A:  The manufacturers we use offer a warranty of 10-50 years depending on the manufacturer.  Bob Piva Roofing offers a workmanship “guarantee against leaks*” for up to 20 years.

Q: Do you use subcontractors?

A:  No, we are fully staffed with experienced roofers who can handle your roof installation or any type of roof repair that you might need.

Q: Do you offer financing or accept credit cards?

A:  We do accept MasterCard and Visa for up to $5,000.

Q:  When do I pay for my new roof or for roofing repair?

A:  You do not need to put any money down.  You pay upon completion of the job.

Q:  What can I do to keep my attic space and/or home cooler in the summer months?

A:  There are several varieties of roof vents that will remove most of the hot air from your attic space and keep your home cooler in the summer months.  This should allow you to save money on your energy bill.

Q:  I have a flat roof.  Is there anything special I need to do to keep it in good shape?

A:  Flat roofs have distinctive problems.  The puddle water and hold debris (leaves). Because water doesn’t run off of flat roofs, there is no margin for error.  Debris should be regularly removed and drains kept open.

Q:  Does it really matter if my roof has broken or missing tiles or shingles?

A:  Broken or missing tiles can allow the sun to beat directly on the protective tar paper layer that’s beneath them.  When this happens the tar paper will become brittle and crack and you will end up with holes in it.  Of course, in Southern California, we don’t get much rain so you may not notice holes or leaks until it does rain a lot.  Any water getting into your house may cause damage to the interior as well as your personal belongings.  It can also cause mold to start growing.  The sooner you notice any trouble spots on your roof and have them repaired, the better off you’ll be.

Q:  What should I do if I find a puddle of water somewhere in my home?

A:  If you notice a leak, cover the things you can’t move, get a bucket to place under the leak, and “as carefully as possible”, poke a pinhole in your ceiling to minimize drywall damage, such as sagging and discoloration and to keep the water from spreading.  Then give us a call so we can determine what type of repair needs to be done.

Q:  I have a cedar shake roof.  Is there something that is more fireproof?

A:  As you know, living in Southern California, we have a fire season so this is a very good question to be asking.  The old cedar shakes are being replaced with a more modern and fireproof concrete tile and fiberglass shingles.

My thoughts: Preventative maintenance is smart and an inexpensive way to extend the life of your roof. Leaves and gutters should be cleaned yearly. Broken or missing tiles/shingles need to be replaced. Metal flashings should be inspected and general wear observed.
